Her Royal Highness's Yearly Christmas Musical Celebration Spotlights Unsung Heroes

The Princess of Wales is hosting her customary Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with guests including members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.

The 1,600 guests will listen to a mix of carols, music and readings from stars like award-winning actors.

Centred Around Compassion and Love

The theme of the concert, held in the candle-lit Abbey on the afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

In the audience are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose daughter died of a tumour, and who established a foundation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a child with a terminal illness.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often discreetly and without words, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an extraordinary difference to the well-being of people," wrote Catherine in a letter ahead of the carol service.

A Steady Comeback

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own steady comeback to the public eye following her health challenges and treatment, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Musical Talent and Access

Those coming to the Abbey will be entertained by talented youth performers aided by the charitable trust Future Talent, established in part by the late Duchess of Kent to widen access to music lessons.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who plays the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been helped by the trust, with grants helping towards musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "awesome" to be performing at the concert.

"Music can be very expensive," Carys said. She is now studying at the prestigious music academy, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to develop their musical skills.

Generations Gathering

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who plays the euphonium, will also be at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many important people," she said.

Within the audience will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will feature nine-year-old Saphia Turner, winner of a youth community award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to generate funds for food banks.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been decorated with custom-created holiday decorations, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

The musical lineup includes singer Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a nautical singing ensemble, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "a dream come true."

This annual carol service will be aired by ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
